Essay #1
During the debate between Kennedy and Nixon, instead of it being a radio debate it was on television and their appearances changed the turnout of the debate. When Russia sent sputnik into space we had to go and beat them to the moon to show we had superior technology. Also, when the war in Vietnam was broadcast on tv it showed how violent and deathly it was, if they had only heard it on the radio and not seen it opinions of the war would be different. The same with the acts of protest about the war.

The Space Race

We joined in the space race so we could be better than russia, or rather prove we were better, as for it being a good idea that is quite the opposite. It cost so much money just to build the spaceships we used to exit the atmosphere that we put ourselves into debt so far that we ended up with no money to pay for the rocket fuel. Also the first person we sent into space on a successful mission cost us more money than russia spent on their first person. Though some good things did come out of us joining the "Space Race", take for instance us being first on the moon and our technological advancements. So in conclusion the space race plus the united states equals a great expense that we dont need and a good investment in technology.
