Book Portfolio

I am reading the book Stand Firm Ye Boys From Maine: The 20th Maine and the Gettysburg Campaign by Thomas A. Desjardin. Wars are fought for freedom and democracy, but the soldiers fight for their survival. This battle was significant because it was a battle during Gettysburg and the 20th Maine defended the hill little round top.

When wars are fought they are not fought for the reasons they were started but for self preservation of the soldiers who fight. In the book the soldiers have to obey the orders of their commanding officers and try to survive doing so. The 20th Maine took the hill big round top and have to defend it by defending their own lives.

Soilders fight for life, lives are lost in war, wars are fought for ideas and objects, ideas and objects are not always lost in war.
